Such a joyful feeling I have not experienced in a long time! I wish every day was like today. Or yesterday and today.

I think my past mistakes have been compensated for more than enough and I feel like I have finally put down the burdens that had been tormenting a part of my brain. Now the only thing that bothers me is that... the dreaded cell bio midterm is coming right up my nose. Last minute cramming tomorrow! That is what I call my style.

I went to see A Doll's House today at the theatre arts building which is right in front of my dorm. I paid only $5 for a ticket because a good friend of mine who is a theater major was kind enough to buy me a ticket. Actually, I bought three tickets, but they are still cheaper than what one would've been at the regular price. The clouds in the sky are beautiful and the weather is perfect. I don't want to lose this very moment, but what comes around goes around I guess. Oooh Karma! Hence the midterm on Monday.

하나님 모든것을 감사합니다.

Trial and Error

나는 바보다. 나는 바보다. 나는 바보다. 나는 바보다. 나는 바보인가?

After a year at Meyzeek and four years at duPont Manual, you'd think I'd learn by now, but nope. I'm still as stupid as the boxelder bug on the window in my room that got squashed by my roommate and left its nasty remnants which we agreed to permanently leave on the window, marked with circles and a brief explanation of what the hell happened here so other people won't accidentally lick them or something.

Distractions are bad. Money is the root of all evil. Monopoly the Lord of the Rings edition is fun... except I'm too stupid to count money.

LET ME JUST CONCENTRATE FOR ONCE AND DO SOMETHING RIGHT!

I hope things will be better by Thanksgiving so I can enjoy my break. And clearly, the point of this entry is... distractions are bad (including women and games).

Ok, I'm so overwhelmed with homework and quizzes, so I have to come here to rescue my brain from falling apart into small pieces of meat. DAMN IT! STUPID HOMEWORK!

Ok, last week, we had two days of snow. Snow flurries with occasional SNOW STORMS! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? snow in october?????????????? stupid weather and stupid homework. They'll make a good couple since they are both stupid.

ok, back to reading cell biology (which is a misnomer since we don't just learn about cell biology, but about ALL OF AP CHEMISTRY, AP PHYSICS, and AP BIOLOGY ALL COMBINED TOGETHER!) I hate this class, and the smartass professor who's a Yale graduate and thinks everyone is as smart as he is and doesn't help at all during his office hours.

Ok enough rambling. I actually have to go get some work done before the sun rises.

Finally, an update

So life has been pretty hectic with things these days. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I only get to eat one meal for the entire day. Well, I guess two meals if I get up earlier, but I like to stay in bed longer, so I would give up breakfast.

Anyway, busy class schedule + random club activities + church life = no time to relax. I feel like I'm starting college anew since this is my first fall semester. But I like things this way. Last semester, I had too much time on my hands, I wasted all that time doing nothing. But now I am actaully occupied almost all the time and surprisingly that makes me more active, instead of enervating me.

So today, Grey's Anatomy season premiere! I missed the first hour of it, but I was told I didn't miss anything and it was all recap. My roommate has a TV, but we don't get good reception in our room (we didn't want to pay for cable) so we watched it with our floormates in the TV lounge. I liked the new episode, but I kinda wish they made it a little more engaging. The story is heading into a predictable, banal storyline.

TGI Friday tomorrow! Finally, weekend.

A subject indeed.

Ok, I haven't updated in forever, so I guess I'll update today.

So yesterday was my birthday. It wasn't particularly interesting but my family went out to celebrate my birthday last Friday because we had guests over at our house yesterday. So what have I been up to? Let's see... In June, I went on a retreat to Panama City, FL with Philip's church youth members. That was fun. Swimming at the beach, frisbee, deep sea fishing, the southern solar blaze, which literally burned my body (ok, not literally). And then my family drove to Key West, FL in four days. On the way to Key West, we stayed in Miami, where we visited my mom's old pharmacology professor who mentored her through her Ph. D work. He was a bald, senile person who loved drinking more than anything else. Apparently, he drinks everyday at the dinner table (who knows? maybe during breakfast and lunch too) and that day was not an exception. He offered me and my dad each a glass of some kind of whiskey and since both of us don't drink, we just took one or two sips and it tasted so bitter and strong, I could probably locate the liquid flowing down through my throat at each second. Anyway, it was a very quick trip, took four days. Ok, that just about sums up everything happened in June.

Um let's see, I'm tutoring a kid who's going to be a freshman at Manual this fall. I'm teaching him intermediate algebra (I don't know what sets the intermediate level, but whatever, as long as he learns something). I thought it was going to be super easy, but I realized that the whole curriculum at Manual has changed since we left and I don't know what the new freshmen will be learning, so I try to be careful when choosing topics to teach. I'm not sure whether I should teach him geometry because this kid hadn't even heard of sine, cosine, and tangent functions until I taught him. And unlike us, I think freshmen don't go into trigonometry until sophomore year. Well, I guess if he knows things that his friends don't, he'll probably do well on the math team, but then there are always kids like Arthur, Abhinav, Harish, Viet, Quyet, and Yi Cai who are super geniuses so I don't know. Maybe he'll be like them? nah I don't think so.

So today was my first day of volunteering at the UofL hospital. Viet told me before that Jane, Sushma, Laura, and Neesha had already been volunteering there, so I thought I was gonna learn things from them, and I did see Jane at orientation, but Viet told me yesterday only Jane was volunteering, so I don't know. Well, today I had my first training with one of the senior volunteers for four hours because new volunteers interested in working in the ER are required to get 8 hours of training. Well, the senior volunteer who guided me through all the tasks to be done by volunteers was a lady maybe in her early or mid 40's and was very nice and friendly. She taught me how to clean gurneys, stock linens, towels, gowns and whatnot. Oh and how to brew coffee, which could be a very important task, because everyone just loves coffee, right? Anyway, four hours went by quickly and when I signed out and went to the parking lot to leave, I smelled like hospital, which is not so pleasing. But yeah, that was fun. Tomorrow, I'm having my second training session from 7PM to 11PM with the other senior volunteer. The senior volunteer I worked with today told me she did more stuff with the patients and visitors whereas the other senior volunteer was more of a tech guy who could operate all the gadgets and machines and handle clinical stuff. So hopefully, tomorrow will be an interesting day too.

Oh I got my new Ubuntu Linux CDs in the mail yesterday! I ordered them on June 13th and have been waiting for them to arrive more than a month! Last time I ordered, it only took them a week to deliver, but this time, I guess there was a whole lot more orders to process since it just came out on June 6th. But hey, this time they sent me cool stickers and the package came from France! And it's totally free, so I think it was worth the wait. Now, I only need to configure my wireless adapter to work... which could very well take um, I don't know, a day? Because things have changed since the last version and somehow my wireless adapter isn't working the way it did with the same settings. Gahhh what would do without the Internet?

Ok, time to go to bed. Au revoir.

FINALS!!! $!#!@@!@!

ok so next week is the finals week. I just came back from my last statistics lecture. Basically, I'm screwed. Last night, I went to the law school library to "study" for finals with some friends. And by "study" I mean talking, laughing, joking, chit-chatting and all that fun stuff. So, I came back to my dorm at 6AM this morning with very little accomplished and I had a class at 9AM, so I decided to not go to sleep. As usual, I failed to stay awake and fell aleep when I came back to my room. When I woke up, it was already 9:35AM, so I hurried to the class and made it in just before the professor finished his last lecture.

And then again, after I ate lunch, I went to the bookstore because they were having a May Sale and I wanted to buy some sweatpants. But the bookstore is on the eastbank and my dorm is on the westbank so I rode my bike across the river several times and I had to go back and forth because what I originally got was a little too small for me. So then, by the time I came back to my room, I was really tired + sleep deprived. Just so you know, I've been staying all night this whole week. When you're lacking sleep, I think you are driven by your insticts and you can't think anymore. And the only thing that floats in your thought pool is the word "sleep." On the way back to my room, I kept repeating "I want to go to sleep." So as soon as I came back I decided to take a nap for an hour (at this time, it was 12:45PM) and I had my last Statistics class at 2:30PM. Well, guess what, when I woke up, it was 3:00PM!!! So again, I rode my bike and hurried to the class and when I stepped into the class, the professor made his finale by saying "OK, I'll shut up now. Good luck on your finals." and I was like SHIT. I've missed the last two lectures too, and this is not good because I don't know anything about correlation and some $#!@!@### like that and the final will be open-book, open-note. So the only thing that will save me is my notes, which I have NOT taken for the last three lectures. $!##@!@@#@!$%@@!!%&^#$&^#&

On a brighter note, I think the calculus final will be a piece of cake. Vector calculus is like doing AP Calc BC all over again, except it's not, lol. I mean, it's obviously more difficult and the concepts are harder to grasp, but somehow it still feels like doing AP Calc. Oh how I love Ms. Schuetter. Anyway, I can't believe the semester is already over. It feels like I just arrived here only a few weeks ago. Well, I want to wish good luck to those who still have their finals within the next few weeks to torture them until the end of the semester. Don't worry, it's not the end of the world yet.

Wow, I haven't written anything here since February. Well, I guess that just proves that my life is boring. Anyway...

There was a guest speaker from UIUC here tonight. He's a physics professor at UIUC and a 2003 Nobel Laureate. The title of his lecture was "Does the Everyday World Really Obey Quantum Mechanics?" Usually my physics lab is on Wednesday from 4:40-6:30PM, but because this lecture was scheduled at 4:00PM, my TA moved the lab to 5:00PM and he encouraged us to attend the lecture. So I decided to listen to what the Nobel laureate had to say about our everyday life and physics. As I expected, the lecture hall was filled with many professors, TAs, and students and I could hardly find a seat when I got there at 3:59PM. Fortunately, I found an empty seat in the back row next to an old, fat guy. So then I sat down and listened and looked at interesting powerpoint slides. First of all, it was NOT about the everyday world at all. He talked about various probabilities of different events taking place between atoms a bunch of times and I couldn't understand a single word (oh, there was ONE thing I knew about though, Schrodinger's Cat). Second of all, he had a thick British accent and his voice was too quiet even with the microphone. The fat guy next to me had to keep asking me whether I could hear the speaker. After half an hour, I felt an almost irresistable urge to fall asleep, so I had to try hard to look focused and awake. And then half an hour later, the lecture was still not over, so I just stood up and got out of the hall and went to the lab, where everyone was waiting for the TA. The TA didn't show up till 10 minutes later when the lecture was finally over. Technically, we could have just left because the school policy says we are allowed to leave if professors don't show up to their class in 15 minutes or TAs in 10 minutes. But we are all good students and we waited.

There was another lecture tonight at another building. It was scheduled at 7:00PM and the speaker was a math professor from Stanford, but I didn't go because it was already 6:40 when the lab was over and I was so hungry because I hadn't eaten anything today. The lecture would have been pretty interesting though, at least better than the boring physics lecture about quantum mechanics and the "Everyday World". But then I don't really have much time today because I have a physics midterm tomorrow and I haven't studied for it at all. Yeah, why am I wasting my time on livejournal? physics is so homosexual.

I love it when I find arcane meanings hidden in his movies.

I still remember when this movie first came out. I would have been too young to understand it, though, if I had watched it when it came out in 1994.

I wish I could go back to 1994 as a twenty year old. There are so many things to learn from life.

I just realized that I wasted so much time when I could have studied for the physics test tomorrow.

gahhhhhhhhh I'm stupid!!! I went to the movies today with some friends and one of them had a car, so we drove to the downtown area. We watched The Chronicles of Narnia (a lot of Biblical allusions indeed) and then drove back to my dorm. They dropped me off and left, and as soon as they were out of my sight, I realized that I left my cellphone in the car!!! ahhh why am I so stupid??? I should have run after the car... ahh... this makes me realize how thankful I should be for all the things I possess. Great Enlightenment! anyway, ahhh I feel like crying... Deya, I understand how you feel now.

J/K!!! I'm a man. I never cry for anything. But I still feel really stupid. Losing my cellphone... plus I didn't do too well on my stat quiz today, when I was supposed to ace it with little effort. So yeah, I guess today was an unlucky day for me.

So, don't call me until I get my cellphone back (as if you ever call me lol).

my two enemies right now: paranoia and insomnia.

Life in college

Ok, so most people have already written about their first college experience back in September or October, but since this is my first semester in college right now, I guess I have to write about mine now. Well, first of all, my floormates don't seem to be that friendly. It might be because I'm a new face here they don't know me that well and I haven't really introduced myself to them, but then my roommate doesn't seem to hang out with them a lot, so I still think they are not so friendly. The only person I REALLY know on my floor is my roommate. On the other hand, all IT Honors students live on 6th, 7th, and 8th floor, and some of them, I met at IT Honors Orientation back in August. Too bad I don't get to live with them because I didn't come here in September(I live on 5th floor)... I know it's my fault. Anyway, yesterday, I went down to the dining hall to eat dinner and, there, I met a kid whom I met at IT Honors orientation. He asked me to join him and his friends so I did. What's really cool about them is they all come down to the dining hall together to eat (the whole floor), unlike the people on my floor, and they occupy several tables by themselves. They were all nice and friendly. After dinner, I went back to my room and I was just lying on my bed cuz I was a little tired (I had an exam in organic chemistry. So I stayed up late the night before). It was then that I heard a knock on the door. I opened the door and it was my friend from 7th floor. He told me he and his friends were going to see Corpse Bride and asked me whether I wanted to go with them. (There's a small movie theater at the student union building here and they have showings every weekend.) So I went with them and watched Corpse Bride. I didn't get to see it with Neesha and Deya and Garrett when it came out, so I got to watch it for the first time yesterday. And I loved it!!! I kinda feel bad for Emily at the end, though. It's like the Little Mermaid, the original version, not the Disney version, except Emily became butterflies, not bubbles. So... it looks like now I know a lot more people from 7th floor than from my own floor. Maybe I should try to get to know the people on my floor too.

So that was yesterday. And today, there was an orientation meeting for KISO (Korean International Student Organization). It's really weird that I am not really used to hanging out with soooo many Koreans (Korean Koreans, not American Koreans, not that I'm not one, though. Wierd, huh?). When I do hang out with many Korean Koreans, it rather makes me uncomfortable. But then today, I had a really great time with the people I met at the meeting. and Korean food!!! for the first time since I came here. We played the mandatory get-to-know-each-other games and of course, all Korean games involve some level of violence, so I got hit with a water bottle in the head a lot. My back kinda hurts right now. head injury -> back injury, perhaps? And then I had to come back to my dorm before the meeting ended because I tutor a kid every saturday. On the way back to my dorm, I stopped by the dining hall and got myself an ice cream cone, because my stomach was on fire from the Korean hot paste in the food I ate at the KISO meeting.

Anyway, this weekend has been very productive in terms of social interaction, but then I haven't done any of my homework, so tomorrow is going to be a busy day. Homework, lab reports, quizzes... and I still have to do laundry, too.

Oh it's REALLY COLD in the morning, especially when I ride my bike to class. But then in the afternoon, it's not so bad.

Happy Lunar New Year!

haha, I'm a cool nerd. sweet.
===============================================================================================================

Modern, Cool Nerd
86 % Nerd, 56% Geek, 8% Dork

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!

Congratulations!

Also, you might want to check out some of my other tests if you're interested in any of the following:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Professional Wrestling

Love & Sexuality

America/Politics

Thanks Again! -- THE NERD?
My Sister is Famous!

SWEEEEEET! My sister is famous now!!!

An article about my sister was on the newspaper today and it was fairly big too.

The Neighborhoods page on courier-journal.com

The actual article

Ahh I am so proud of my sister, yet also realize how pathetic my life is... when the younger sibling surpasses the older, just as the pupil surpasses the teacher.

Suddenly, I want to watch a Hong Kong movie called "Turn Left Turn Right."

Minnesooooooota

Haven't updated in a while.

I'm finally in Minnesota. I left Louisville last Saturday and moved into my dorm room last Monday. But the Internet didn't work in my dorm until yesterday because I wasn't registered for any classes until yesterday. But now it works and all is well. Because I registered late, I can't take Organic Chemistry, however. So instead, I'm taking Greek/Roman Mythology, which should be pretty interesting. My roommate is a really nice guy. He's a computer engineering major and he seems to like anime. My dorm building is right next to the Mississippi river, so I have a pretty good view from my room.

I kinda miss going to sleep at 3 AM and waking up at 1 PM and not having to worry about classes or my grades. I have a class at 8 AM everyday!!! But I guess that's what I get for finally going to college. Electromagnetic physics kinda scares me... I was never good at that subject in high school. Hopefully, I'll find smart lab partners and they'll be able to help me.

Ok, enough wasting my time on livejournal and facebook. Now that I actually have a life to care about, I must go.

Oh, btw, it is COLD HERE!!! 20 degrees. But what's worse is that 20 degrees is considered not bad. Apparently, there's a heat wave coming from the west, so that's why it's not "too cold." Whatever.

First entry of 2006

This is my first entry of Year 2006. Happy new year everyone!

Snowboarding was fun. Too bad it rained. Some people have already gone back to school and the rest of you are probably going back next week. Good news, it looks like I'll be going to Minnesota for spring semester. I'll probably leave on Wednesday or Thursday... or maybe even Friday. I don't know yet. Hope all of you have a great semester and a great year.

The following is for my own reference.

Installing stupid proprietary ATI drivers.(http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Installation_Guide#Method_1:_Installing_Breezy.27s_Included_Driver_.288.16.20.29

Remove existing fglrx driver

Remove Breezy's included drivers if they are installed:

sudo apt-get remove xorg-driver-fglrx
sudo apt-get remove fglrx-control
sudo apt-get remove linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r)
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg #select the "ati" module

Reboot.

Installing the new driver

Download the ATI driver installer: Click here

All Platforms:

Change to the download directory. Today was so much fun and it was awesome to be able to see my friends, although some faces didn't show up. I can't wait till we go skiing. I hope Arthur can go skiing with us.

Christmas is just around the corner

haven't updated in a while... so here's an entry about my life.

John called me yesterday and he told me to come over to his house and go to the gym with him at 1 o'clock today. And then this morning, Quyet, Abhinav, and Philip called me and said they were gonna play football at UofL. Of course, I couldn't play football with them because I had already told John that I would go to the gym with him today. And then at 1 PM, I called John and he said that he was eating lunch and that he would call me back when he was done eating. Then about an hour later, he called me and said he couldn't go to the gym because his car broke down and he and his dad had to go to the auto repair shop. So I just stayed home and watched The Grudge instead. I was going to watch it last night, but I thought watching a scary movie by myself at night wasn't the best idea, so I watched it today. Well, honestly, it was SCARY. I watched it on my laptop and I had my headphones connected to the computer, so all the annoying beeps and high-frequency noise and creepy sounds came right into my ears. I think I'm going to watch Ju-on just because I wanna see if the original movie is any scarier. Oh yeah, in the middle of the movie, Neesha and Kendra called me and Kendra pretended to be Marcus, which was so obvious. Kendra, you need to work on your fake voice, man. But I still love you. and Neesha, you too.

Then in the evening, there was the church college kids Christmas party at Emily Hawkins' house. Leah and Roger obviously didn't go Christmas carolling. I played pool for a while and then just talked with a bunch of people. I got acquainted with some new faces that I had never seen at church. And then finally, we played white elephant. But we didn't play by the rules. We just grabbed a random gift and opened it instantly. So the whole thing was over in 5 minutes, which was pretty pointless, and so I couldn't even steal Roger's World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion belt. I got a book entitled "Oh, Yuck! The Encyclopedia of Everything Nasty." It's not as bad as the title sounds, though. It has some interesting and useful facts like how to kill head lice or why earwax is good for your ears. Somebody got toilet seats which was really hilarious. And he actually took them home with him when he left. My white elephant package I brought with me was four little toy car things and a North Dakota license plate. I remember I got that license plate at the National Science Olympiad swap meet three years ago. I clearly remember, I traded my "fossils from the Falls of the Ohio" with the license plate because at these swap meets, license plates are the de facto currency and I wanted to get other cool stuff with license plates. But I ended up keeping the North Dakota license plate instead of trading it with other cool stuff. The person who received my package, I expected her to think my package was totally retarded, but she actually liked the license plate, so my plan obvisouly failed. Maybe I shouldn't have given it away.
Then we watched the movie Elf. I have already watched it so many times because I used to have it on my laptop, but it was still funny, and of course, perfect at this time of year.

Man, I can't wait till I see you guys again. Let me know if there's going to be a reunion party or whatever. And make it after Christmas because Arthur's coming home on 24th. Man, I just love this time of year. I love seeing Christmas trees and decorations everywhere. Merry Christmas! Joyeux Noël!

It's gonna be really tough for Japan hahahahaha.

The US has a pretty good chance, with Italy as the only major obstacle to defeat.

Argentina in the Group of Death... AGAIN!!! That's very unfortunate.

Wow I can't believe it's already been four years since the last World Cup.

Happy Birthday Deya!

Today, Deya's b-day party was at Buca di Beppo. So I took my sister to her clarinet lesson and drove to Buca di Beppo. On the way, I called Abhinav because I missed his call last night because I went to sleep at 8 PM (I know!!!). Well, I knew the brakes had been worn out for a while, but I didn't think it would be a big problem. While I was talking to Abhinav, I was on Hurstborne Parkway and the traffic was pretty bad. There were cars in front of me stopping at the red light and so I hit the brakes, and then somehow the pressure was released and the brakes didn't work. So I pressed the pedal harder and finally my car went screech! I almost hit the car in front me, but my car stopped at about three inches behind the car in front of me.

ok 4 pictures = 4,000 words. Had another great time with my UofL friends.

Deya's Birthday!

from right to left: Garrett, Deya, Brian, Neesha, Shivani(?), and Bob's hands and the late Pope John Paul II.

happy birthday Deya (I don't know how many times I said that to her today, but it's only once a year!)

Bob? what was he trying to do to our good friend Garrett? lol

After Deya's party, I went to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for my church college students' Bible study thing. I called Roger Brock and he told me he was coming too. Roger just came back from his four-month-long mission trip to Bolivia. While he was there, he stayed with a Bolivian pastor's family and he said he spoke Spanish the whole time he was there. Man, I don't think I would be able to survive if I were sent to France for four months. I don't like French anyway. Roger, Myles, Fabio and I were there on time. Dan came a little late because he had to move today to another house and he was busy with all the work. Priscila came late too because she totally forgot about it, lol.

야호 오늘 드디어 처음으로 tutor해서 돈벌었다!

Oh by the way, Arthur's still 19 years old, kids. I was mistaken.
